Department for Simulations and Distance Learning
The Department for Simulations and Distance Learning is an internal unit of the School of National Defence - "Vojvoda Radomir Putnik", whose mission is to use its human and technical resources to support the training of the members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces through the application of modern, primarily IT technologies.
The aims of the Department for Simulations and Distance Learning are:
- providing the same opportunities to all members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces to learn and improve during their entire working career with minimum absence from the workplace;
- creation of expert and professional personnel, capable of adapting to changes and advances in military technology;
- provision of appropriate profiles of personnel who will be qualified for the application of IT technologies at the level that requires engagement in a multinational environment;
- improving the methodological skills of teaching staff in accordance with technological and organisational changes that continuously improve military education and training;
- facilitating the introduction of education quality standards, improving the standards of the material base of teaching and the creation of teaching and educational literature, improving the quality of evaluation and self-evaluation of the teaching process, upgrading the scoring and evaluation system, increasing the level of success during studies, the mobility of teachers, cadets and course participants within the University of Defence and towards other educational institutions in the Republic of Serbia and abroad.
The tasks of the Department for Simulations and Distance Learning are:
- administration of the Distance Learning Platform as a unique resource of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and the Serbian Armed Forces on the Internet;
- administration of courses for the use of the Distance Learning Platform for the purpose of training professors and instructors for the creation of electronic teaching materials and the implementation of various forms and ways of conducting military education and training using computer technologies;
- technical support to units and institutions of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and the Serbian Armed Forces in the development of electronic content for distance learning;
- preparation, organisation and development of technical solutions for the implementation of education using modern computer technologies and the Internet;
- the use of constructive and virtual simulations in the teaching processes at academic studies and career development courses that are implemented at the University of Defence.
The Department was founded in 2010, its capacities were developed through a series of international military cooperation projects, and it represents the bearer of the distance learning function in the system of military education and training. Within the framework of international military cooperation, the Department for Simulations and Distance Learning is a partner center in:
- international consortium of the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative (ADL Initiative), and
- regional consortium for cooperation with distance learning centres of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Army of North Macedonia and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia (RADLI).
In addition, under the auspices of the PfP, the representatives of the Department for Simulations and Distance Learning actively participate in the work of the NATO Training Group for Individual Training and Education Development (NTG IT&ED).
The Head of the Department for Simulations and Distance Learning is Colonel Goran Šimić PhD, Associate Professor.
